Moldavite: A Stone for the New Age

by Angela

Moldavite

Moldavite

Moldavite is a green, glassy-looking meteor rock found in the Moldau River Valley in the Czech Republic.  It is the product of a meteor collision with Earth nearly 15 million years ago.  Because of Moldavite’s ‘extraterrestrial’ origins, it has been prized for thousands of years for its power to quicken spiritual evolution and raise the conscious awareness of those who use it.  It is classified as one of the rarest of Tektite stones, with a hardness level of 5.5 to 6.  It is a mixture of silicon dioxide, aluminum oxide, and other metal oxides.  Its color can range from a deep forest green, to pale green, to greenish-brown.

Key Healing Properties

  • Energy ascension & accelerated spiritual evolution
  • Chakra cleansing & activation
  • Healing & protection of the heart chakra
  • Transformation & personal growth
  • Manifesting life changes: new love, new career, physical healing
  • Astra travel/projection
  • Spirit Communication

How to work with Moldavite

Because of Moldavite’s high vibrational energy, I recommend working with the stone at home before wearing it out in public.  Moldavite energy can make some users jittery, ’spacey’, or unable to focus on work or daily tasks.  Meditate once a day for at least 20-30 minutes until you feel acclimated to the Moldavite energy.  At that point you may determine if it is a stone you wish to wear everyday as a jewelry piece or talisman.

Tips

  • Do not cleanse with salt!  Moldavite has a fragile and soft composition.  Try smudging with Sage, or a Selenite stone.
  • Check out Love is in the Earth, by Melody; and Stones of the New Consciousness, by Robert Simmons for more information about the metaphysical properties of Moldavite.
  • Make sure you trust the source of your Moldavite!  Research before you buy, especially if you’re thinking about buying online.

Earth lore carries a nice selection of Moldavite specimens and sterling silver jewelry from our trusted Tektite source for over 10 years.  Come on in and feel the vibration!

Living With Psoriasis

by Larissa

Psoriasis is difficult to treat, painful, and often embarrassing.  Although attributed to heredity, environmental factors; especially prolonged injuries, food allergies and stress, are now acknowledged as contributors. This skin condition is recognized by thick or scaly patches of skin most often occurring around the extensor part of a joint such as: the elbows, knees, hands, fingers, toenails,  and feet. Dermal cells multiply at ten times the normal rate, bunching up rather than laying smooth and flat. When treating at home, or even by a professional, it’s important to address what could be causing the ailment.

Internal issues must be dealt with when it comes to improving skin disorders. No one likes to hear everyday routine things such as; smoking, alcohol, caffeine, dairy, meat, spicy foods, and even fruits high in acid, can cause skin flare ups. However, by omitting these things from the diet for at least a few weeks, one may find immense relief.

If hereditary, severity of symptoms may be reduced by making lifestyle changes, and sticking to them. Orthodox treatment with ointments, cortisone, and steroids will temporarily suppress the condition.  Outside the condition may improve, while internally the ailment may go deeper, possibly  manifesting as a more serious disorder. Once medication is removed a harsh rebound of the ailment can occur as the body has become reliant on the drugs. The main reason for failure in healing any problem naturally is too few are prepared to stick to lifestyle changes, largely due to social pressures. Be  disciplined with yourself and be prepared for positive changes, you and your body will be together a long time.

Of all the things books and articles have suggested, one keeps popping up, stress reduction.  It makes sense since stress throws hormones out of whack, resulting in imbalances.  Getting a massage on a regular basis promotes well-being, allowing the mind/body connection to heal.  Along with stress reduction, be sure to moisturize properly.  Essential oils are used to treat inflamed areas in a number of ways from compresses to baths. Use care to not scrub or massage the area vigorously as it may further irritate the area. In addition when taking healing baths do not use extremely hot water.

Some essential oils to try are:

  • Lavender
  • Bergamot
  • Chamomile

Try adding two drops of each to two ounces fragrance free lotion. Also try mixing the above into an avocado base oil for a massage oil to smooth irritated scales. Do not add oil directly to a huge bottle,  make up small amounts of treatments.  Concoctions should be shelved no longer than two weeks unless preserved to prevent spoilage. To treat stress and anxiety, try Bach flower Rescue Remedy spray and Rescue Remedy cream for a topical.

Often the skin is referred to as the third lung.  We take in nutrients through skin and release toxins as well. Some herbs to try in a bath bag include:

  • Birch Bark
  • Chamomile
  • Lavender
  • Comfrey Root

Herbal baths are not only medicinal, they are a great stress reducer.  If you doubt the efficiency of herbal baths or topical treatments, rub half a raw garlic clove on the bottom of the foot.  Within minutes you will taste the garlic! Consult your primary care physician about supplementing with fatty acids,  dairy substitutes, and other dietary changes.

Earth Lore carries all of the herbs mentioned in this article, as well as the Bach remedies.

A Brief Examination of Violet Leaf

Violet

Blue Violet (Viola odorata, Violaceae)

by Kate

Scientific Name: Viola odorata, Violaceae

Introduction

Violet leaf has a variety of uses both medicinal and magical. The ancient Greeks considered the Violet a symbol of fertility and love and put it in love potions esp when mixed in sachets with lavender. According to Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs, if you can gather the first Violets of spring, your dearest wish will be granted. Carrying the flowers brings a change in luck. Other sources suggest a garland of the flowers could prevent headaches and dizziness.

Medicinally, fresh crushed leaves reduce swelling and soothe irritations. The aroma is very relaxing and makes and excellent perfume as well. (Sun’s Eye Violet Oil is only $7.95!) Violet in a pillow will help ease headaches. Blue violets have been used in traditional folk medicine for thousands of years, usually as a headache remedy or natural pain reliever. While we can’t suggest ingesting any herb without telling you to do your homework first, many people use violet in cooking. Young leaves and flower buds can be eaten raw or cooked. They make a very good salad, and a tea made from the flower or leaves is equally as tasty. Be sure to research proper ways of using this herb internally.

The dried leaf is traditionally used as a tea, and the fresh leaf and flower is traditionally used in salads, soups, jellies and jams, as well as other food preparations.

by Angela Salamey

Is your mind constantly racing with thoughts or worries? Do you have a hard time focusing on one task or project at a time (causing you to have a laundry list of half-finished business)? Do you have a big exam or legal matter to prepare for? Does your mind feel cluttered?

If you answered ‘Yes” to any of these questions, you may want to try working exclusively with the following 5 stones. Keep these stones in your energy field at all times for better results. (Recommendation: try not to add any other stones to the mix until you achieve the clarity you seek. Additional energies may hinder the benefits of the F.O.C.U.S. Stones).

Get ready to F.O.C.U.S!

F is for Fluorite

Fluorite is one of the best crystals to use to overcome disorganization. It helps bring structure and balance to daily life by minimizing chaos and mental confusion. Fluorite is also an excellent learning aid, increasing one’s concentration and critical thinking ability.

O is for Obsidian

Obsidian brings clarity to the mind, clearing confusion and constricting beliefs. It helps one to see the cause of mental distress and clutter. Once the cause is identified, it can be cleared. Obsidian provides strength and balance in times of change and major transition. (Recommendation: try Mahogany Obsidian or Snowflake Obsidian for better clarity and to release negative patterns).

C is for Carnelian

Carnelian helps improve analytic abilities and clarity of the mind. It sharpens concentration by aiding one in removing unwanted thoughts and influences. Carnelian is a stone that helps one stay focused on specific goals (or a specific life purpose).

U is for Unakite

Unakite helps one release conditions that inhibit spiritual and psychological growth. It assists one in envisioning (and creating) future successes, instead of dwelling on past “failures”. Unakite provides a calm, focused energy, reducing anxiety and self-doubt.

S is for Selenite

Selenite is a powerful stabilizer of erratic emotions. It helps clear mental confusion, allowing one to see the ‘big picture’. It can cleanse and protect the aura, guarding against unwanted energies and influences. Selenite is also a great stone for bringing creative projects to fruition, making it an essential aid for writers, artists, musicians, and the like.

Selenite – Stone of Clarity

Selenite Lamp

Selenite Lamp

by Grant

‘Selenite’ is the name we give to crystallized gypsum.  It normally forms in long clusters of flat, bladed, or needle-like crystals, and most commonly ranges from translucent tan to optically clear.  Many varieties exist, and it comes from practically every place on Earth, but usually what we see in the US is from Mexico or Brazil.

The first property of Selenite is to enhance clarity of thought and judgement.  It can help one to see the inner workings of a situation, and to make insightful and wise decisions.  Keep a piece near where you do most of your communicating, such as your computer or workplace.

Second, when placed in the for outermost corners of a home, it projects a protective grid around the house that protects from outside influences.  It also helps to promote peace within the home.

Finally, Selenite can enhance one’s ability to scry or to receive visions.  If you hold a piece in your hand and rub it with your thumb while you are meditating, is can assist in the receipt and comprehension of messages from your guides, ascended masters, and benevolent spirits

A word of caution – selenite is water-soluble.  That is to say, it will begin to dissolve if you get it wet.

Earth Lore handles several varieties of Selenite, including tumbled, spar, bladed, and lamps.
